What the BANDEC Tropical card is
The Tropical card is a USD card issued by BANDEC. Unlike the Clásica card, which is magnetic, the Tropical has an EMV chip, a standard that protects against cloning and works in compatible terminals on the MLC network.
It's used to shop at CIMEX stores, Tiendas Caribe, service stations and other authorized shops that accept this card. The balance is held in USD, but you can top it up from Spain paying in EUR: VeltroPay applies the conversion at the time of sending and shows it in the calculator before you confirm.
If your family member has a Tropical card from BANDEC or is applying for one, it's worth confirming the card details and current conditions with the cardholder or the issuer before sending.
